EXPLORE@GUS After School Programs

Our programs promise hands-on learning and fun!

Glen Urquhart School after school programs are designed to give children from GUS and across the North Shore a supervised setting to explore and grow through enriching activities. Programs are led by GUS faculty and local vendors. We offer multiple week sessions and one-day workshops to fit your schedule!

In this fun creative class you'll learn to sew using the sewing machine, and gain new skills in basic design principles, pattern tracing, fabric cutting, hand sewing, and other sewing related activities used to design and construct sewing based projects. You'll be amazed at what you can create! Students work at their own pace on their own projects yet are encouraged to help one another master skills and support each others creativity in design. Projects may include stuffed animals, bags, applique pillows, room decoration, fashion accessories and more!

 

Enter into the magical and exciting world of chess with Chess Wizards! You will participate in epic chess games, fun and interactive lessons, tournaments, team matches, trivia and more! Whether you have been playing chess for your entire life and want to improve, are brand new to the game, or you just want to have a fun experience with your friends - Chess Wizards is the place for you!

Soccer Shots

Soccer Shots is an engaging children’s soccer program with a focus on character development. Our caring team positively impacts children’s lives on and off the field through best-in-class coaching, curriculum and communication. Our coaches are the best-trained in the business. Our expert-approved curriculum is age-appropriate and aligns with childhood education standards. In addition we provide an exceptional customer experience and ongoing communication with parents.

Ballet Class  
3:00 to 4:00 p.m. Grades 2 to 3  $175

Facilitated by: GUS Faculty, Ann-Marie Ciaraldi, Dance Teacher  

This class will consist of both barre and center work as well as learning the vocabulary and history of ballet. Participants are encouraged to wear ballet slippers, tights and leotards (any color). Please do not wear a skirt or tutu. Come and learn this beautiful art form! Led by Ann-Marie Ciaraldi, who has been a faculty member and guest teacher at various studios on the North Shore, including Gene Murray's School of Dance, the Northeast School of Ballet, and Northern Essex Community College.

Art Studio Workshop

Facilitated by GUS Faculty, Dawn Southworth, Art Teacher        

The aim of the art workshop is to strengthen each student’s visual vocabulary and abilities. A wide variety of disciplines will be offered, including painting, drawing, assemblage, and mixed media. Students will help create the curriculum, according to their needs and goals, as they push their ideas beyond the expected and complete projects for inclusion in an art portfolio. Students will be encouraged to work together, problem solve, and communicate ideas, thoughts, and feelings in a nurturing multidisciplinary studio environment, sharpening both their critical and interpersonal skills.

       

 

NEW! ADULT COURSE OFFERINGS - REGISTER TODAY

Beginning Drawing (5 week course)    
Tuesdays, April 2-30, 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. Adults  $150    
Facilitated by: GUS Faculty, Margaurita Spear    
Using charcoal and a large pad of drawing paper, develop basic skills in representational drawing from in-class still life arrangements. Develop a visual art repertoire that includes an understanding of composition, value, implied texture, balance, form, space, and emphasis. While directed towards beginner students, intermediate and advanced students are welcome to join and explore more advanced subjects, techniques or applications. Supply list provided upon registration. Child care provided for 4 years old and up for $15.00 per week.    

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • We understand that sometimes families need a little leeway with their schedules... EXPLORE @GUS participants may take advantage of our After Care program before and after their session at no additional cost. After Care is a supervised recreational time that runs 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. After Care participants are given outside play time, and enjoy board games, artwork, or homework time. We provide a light snack and participants are allowed to bring their own NUT FREE snack.  

  • GUS will provide van transportation from Beverly Middle School to EXPLORE@GUS for the 4:00 p.m. Thursday, Art Studio Workshop! Participants will join the After Care program from their arrival at GUS until their 4:00 p.m. EXPLORE @GUS program start to snack, do homework, or participate in activities.  

  • Registration is online and the registration deadline is one week before the program begins. Minumum class size is 6 students. Register early to secure your space!
