Upper School Author Day with Gary Schmidt: Friday, June 2

Friday, June 2, 2017

Young adult author Gary Schmidt is coming to GUS to discuss his many books and his views on the writing process with the upper school students.

Gary Schmidt is the author of the Newbery Honor and Printz Honor book Lizzie Bright and the Buckminster Boy, Newbery Honor book The Wednesday Wars, National Book Award finalist Okay For Now, and other young adult novels. He is a professor of English at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Seventh grade English class enjoyed Schmidt’s most recent novel, Orbiting Jupiter, as a read aloud. They are particularly excited to share questions and listen to a published author discuss his craft.

For those families who purchased a Gary Schmidt novel earlier this spring (his trip was canceled due to inclement weather), those books will be handed out after the assembly.
