SUMMER@GUS Day Camp Dates: Mon - Fri, June 24th - August 9th, 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Extended Day opportunities are available, but limited.

Requirements

  • Staff must commit to working at least 5 full weeks to SUMMER@GUS, a full 7 week commitment is encouraged.
  • Staff must commit to attending two weekly staff meetings on Monday and Wednesday at 8:00am
  • Staff must have high energy and want to grow professionally Program Specialists and Enrichment Facilitators must have proven experience in leading groups of children and documented experience in the activity area.
  • Day Camp staff are at least 16 years of age and have proven, successful experience working with children, are energetic, fun, and enjoy the outdoors.
  • Day Camp staff must attend a comprehensive staff orientation before camp begins to embrace the SUMMER@GUS core program and values and build a cohesive staff team who work in the best interest of the campers at all times. Orientation includes health and safety protocols, risk management, behavior management, intentional program design, emergency procedures, use of resources, care of equipment, and overall knowledge of camp procedures.
  • A background check, including a Massachusetts CORI, SORI, National Sex Offender Public Registry, and fingerprinting, is required.

Available Positions

Junior Counselor Junior counselors are at least 16 years of age, and have not graduated from High School. Junior counselors work in collaboration with Senior Counselors and Group Leaders to:

  • Provide a healthy, safe, and inclusive camp community.
  • Participate in all camp activities and events.
  • Be energetic and charismatic.
  • Provide for the physical and emotional safety of all children.
  • Work a minimum of 5 out of the 7 weeks of camp.
  • A 7 week commitment is highly encouraged.*

Senior Counselor Senior counselors have completed at least 1 year of college, and have not graduated from college or the equivalent. Senior counselors work in tandem with Group leaders and junior counselors to:

  • Provide a healthy, safe, and inclusive camp community.
  • Participate in all camp activities and events.
  • Be energetic and charismatic.
  • Provide for the physical and emotional safety of all children.
  • Work a minimum of 5 out of the 7 weeks of camp.
  • A 7 week commitment is highly encouraged.*

Group Leader Group Leaders are leaders that:

  • Possess classroom and/or team management experience.
  • Are teachers, Para professionals, Teaching assistants, Coaches.
  • Work a minimum of 5 out of the 7 weeks of camp.
  • A 7-week commitment is highly encouraged.

Program Specialist Program Specialists have experience designing curriculum in one of the following areas:

  • Arts & Crafts, Sports & Games, Dramatics, Movement & Music, Science, Exploration, woodworking, Archery, STEM, Digital Arts etc.
  • Program Specialists have experience leading exciting and engaging activities that are appropriate for 1st-6th graders. Program Specialists plan and provide Camp Director with curriculum for the Summer. Program Specialists work a minimum of 5 out of the 7 weeks of camp.
  • A 7-week commitment is highly encouraged.

Summer Administrator Summer Administrators support the camp community with logistics, operations, and programming. Summer Administrators:

  • Manage Junior Counselor, Senior Counselor, and Group leaders that work within their specific age group.
  • Summer administrators attend monthly meetings leading up to the start of the camp season to become familiar with the framework and expectations of the Summer at GUS experience.
  • Must have at least 2 years with experience managing and collaborating with a team.
  • Summer administrators must work all 7 weeks and must attend 5 monthly meetings from February through June.

Health Services Assistant Health Services Assistant works in collaboration with the Summer@GUS registered Nurse to:

  • Maintain the health and wellness of the SUMMER@GUS community.
  • Provide first aid and first responder treatment as necessary.
  • Provide a warm and inviting presence to campers that visit the Health Services Office.

Health Services Assistant has/is:

  • At least 2 years experience in a camp, youth program, or in a relevant area.
  • Detailed oriented with excellent communication skills.

This is an excellent opportunity for a student nurse with FirstAid and CPR certification or EMT. This position is in consultation with the GUS registered nurse.

Van Drivers to provide transportation on program field trips and supervisory responsibility of campers and van safety. Must be at least 25 years of age, have a valid driver's license, complete a drivers background check, and partake in a GUS van driving safety orientation. Typical hours are 9:15 AM - 12:15 PM, M-F.
