Alumni Profile: Meredith Molloy '00

Q+A with Meredith (Gendreau) Molloy ’00

What was one of your most meaningful or memorable GUS experiences?

One of the most meaningful are the black books that I had throughout my GUS years. My mother recently found mine, and they were like a time capsule. My father, unfortunately, passed away in 2010 - but tucked inside my black books were messages from him, written during lower school/upper school parents nights. It meant so much to unearth those and re-read them.

Where are you now, and what are you doing?

I've moved back to the North Shore and stayed local! I work as a Senior Manager for Toast Inc., based out of Boston, MA. My husband and I recently had a baby girl in March of 2021.

In what ways do you feel GUS prepared you for what you're doing now?

As an adult, looking back at my time at GUS, it's abundantly clear that the GUS community and curriculum shaped me into a highly empathetic and conscientious person. It's an environment that I always felt safe, confident, and nurtured in, which as a parent now, I know is what one wants for their child in an educational setting.

Any words of advice for current GUS students?

To take a breath. It's easy to be excited for high school, for college, for graduation, for growing up. But take a breath so you can remember in those later moments how being on the nature trail at GUS felt. How May Day felt. How Bread Day felt. How the Cereal Bowl in the fall felt (I hope the Cereal Bowl is still a thing!). When I remember being a child, those feelings are what I remember and hold close to me.
