A Solstice Message from the Head of School

At GUS, light is not something we wait for — it is something we create together.

In our classrooms and studios, along woodland trails and breezeways, in the joyful swirl of recess and the small, instinctive kindnesses between children, sparks gather. Curiosity glows. Courage flickers into connection. Wonder brightens the dim corners of winter days.

When our students hang their Solstice stars on the tree and watch them sway in the crisp air, we’re reminded that hope often begins with something small. A question. A helping hand. A moment of shared joy. These tiny sparks weave themselves into something stronger — a living, breathing lantern made of community.

Children look after one another with natural generosity. Teachers ignite new ideas and nurture them into lasting understanding. Families surround our work with warmth and steady care. Strand by strand, these moments form the vibrant tartan of GUS — a fabric strong enough to hold us through darkness and returning light.

This Solstice, may we notice the glow we create here — the light that shines not because the season is bright, but because we are. Below, we invite you to pause for a Mindful Moment with our second graders, who offer an opportunity to breathe, reflect, and notice the light within.

Welcome Yule.
