Glen Urquhart School Head of School Departing GUS in June

The Board of Trustees of Glen Urquhart School has announced that it has accepted David Liebmann’s resignation as Head of School, effective at the end of the 2018-19 school year. "We express our gratitude for David’s contributions to our school and community and wish him every success in his future endeavors," said Carl Graves, P'19, '20, President, Board of Trustees.

Effective June 12, 2019, Assistant Head of School Gretchen Forsyth will serve as Interim Head of School. She and Liebmann will continue to collaborate for the remainder of this school year.  Forsyth joined GUS in 2010 as Director of Upper School and became Assistant Head in 2018. A comprehensive planning process for selecting a new Head of School is currently underway.

David Liebmann advanced the mission of GUS in numerous ways throughout his tenure at the school. His dedication to strengthening Glen Urquhart School's foundational mission of child-centered, thematic curriculum showed in his support of programs, enthusiasm for experiential learning, and stewardship of the campus natural resources. Under Liebmann's leadership, the school grew to include a full-day preschool, increased overall enrollment, welcomed alumni and friends to the "40+Forward" all-school reunion, expanded auxiliary program offerings and partnered with the Long-Range Planning Committee on the creation of a five-year strategic plan. An advisor to the Chewonki Foundation and member of the editorial board of DiversityIS, David has been a committed proponent for place-based education and inclusion initiatives throughout his time at the school.

Shared Graves, "We value David's enduring efforts on behalf of GUS and appreciate his thoughtfulness with children, families, and colleagues. On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I thank David for his  contributions to GUS and I look forward to partnering with Gretchen and her team of talented faculty for a smooth and forward-looking transition."
