Jack Gould ’11, a current Middlebury College All-American lacrosse player, says that he developed his love of athletics and learning during his time at Glen Urquhart. “I had only played lacrosse for maybe one or two years before coming to GUS, but being able to play at Glen Urquhart definitely helped me grow as a player and as a person. Athletics overall at GUS had a huge impact on my life, as well my overall school experience. It prepared me for prep school life and instilled values in me that I will never forget.”

After graduating from GUS, Jack went on to study at Governor’s Academy, where he played varsity football, hockey, and lacrosse. He was nominated co-MVP his senior year in lacrosse, he was elected to play in the Bostonlax All-American game, and he was named to the All-USA New England Boys’ Lacrosse Team. Jack also won four Independent School League championships while playing football for Governor’s.

Mr. E remembers Jack as a stand-out lacrosse player at GUS. “He was also a leader on the basketball court, a very hard working student athlete, and one of Glen Urquhart’s most successful cross country runners.” Now Jack is a stand-out lacrosse player at Middlebury: http://athletics.middlebury.edu/sports/mlax/2015-16/bios/gould_jack_2fg5?view=profile.

During his freshman year, Jack was one of the top three scoring players, tied for third place for scoring the most points for the team. This year, the Middlebury lacrosse team made it to the NESCAC finals and all the way to the NCAA Tournament. His sister, Haley Gould ’07, was also a formidable lacrosse player for Union College.

Jack says that what he appreciated most about GUS was the balance between schoolwork, social activities, such as school clubs, and athletics. “It was the perfect balance and allowed me to excel in the classroom, as well as on the athletic field, and beyond. Looking back on being a student at GUS, I loved the close environment and the people at the school. That's what made it special.”
