The Case for Chickens

The chickens X Block has been an upper school favorite for the last couple of years.

Students in this X-block are dedicated to having chickens on the GUS campus permanently. This year, the group started by researching different breeds of chickens. Students then worked collaboratively to choose the best chickens for our campus, based on egg production and friendliness. Next, they researched how many chickens were allowed on our school campus, and began scouting locations to keep them. At this point, students have obtained the proper permits needed from the city of Beverly, have chosen a coop and run to house the chickens, and have created a daily schedule for maintenance. Their next steps are to get the approval from the administration, and then get the hens on campus!

Hear from our students in the video above about why they’re excited about chickens - and why we should have them on campus.
