A Letter to Our Alumni Community

Dear GUS Alumni and Alumni Parents,

I hope that this message finds you and your family healthy and safe as you navigate the uncertainty that COVID-19 has brought around the world, as well as the unprecedented changes in daily life. Glen Urquhart School alumni and their families span the globe, and you all continue to be in our thoughts.

This week, GUS students completed our first full week of distance learning. While we would certainly all rather be in the classroom, this situation has afforded our faculty a new opportunity to bring learning alive - in homes across the North Shore - and we are eager to explore new ways to deliver on our mission. Students, across all grades, have been patient, innovative, respectful, and most engaging. Some of the stories we’ve featured for you in this update will give you a sense of how everyone has been coming together in the most supportive GUS-like fashion. We also hope this brings you some good cheer.

As we consider our alumni and alumni parent gatherings for the remainder of the year, all events through May 30th have been cancelled. This includes our May Day gathering and Former Faculty Tea. GUSFest 2020, 80’s alumni mixer, and Volunteer/Leadership Appreciation Gathering have been postponed. Plans for future events including Graduation 2020 and the Annual Meeting scheduled to take place in June may change due to present circumstances. We will share more information about all of our upcoming and rescheduled community-wide gatherings as information becomes available.

Your relationships between one another and with our school remind us that the ties between members of the GUS community transcend time and distance. We encourage you to virtually connect with your fellow GUS alumni and friends in the weeks ahead, or to reach out to your former teachers! If you haven’t spoken in years, maybe this time provides an opportunity to catch up. If you seek contact information for a former classmate or former faculty member, please reach out to me and I will do my best to provide you with information. Please note: we always ask permission before providing contact information. I can be reached at mdelay@gus.org. If you’re not already a member of our GUS Alumni Facebook group, please be sure to join!

From all of us at GUS, thank you for being a special part of the GUS community! The strong bonds you have with one another as alumni, as well as the relationships you developed during your time as a GUS parent, are a source of support and remind us how special school really is.

Please take good care of yourself and your families,
Martha Delay
