Welcoming New Faculty Members '25-'26
We’re excited to introduce several new faculty members joining Glen Urquhart School for the 2025-2026 school year. These talented educators bring fresh energy, expertise, and a shared commitment to our mission, vision, and values. We look forward to having each of them on our team and hope you will join us in giving them a warm welcome to GUS this fall!
Emily Bouchard, Grade 4 Teacher
Emily has been teaching for 4 years, most recently at Shore Country Day School, working with students in grades 2 through 5. She is passionate about learning and growing both professionally and personally. She likes to create an engaging classroom where students feel comfortable being themselves, exploring new ideas, and experiencing new things. She holds a B.A. in Psychology from Framingham State University. Outside of the classroom, she enjoys running and Taekwondo, which help bring focus and balance to her teaching!

Heather Carnevale, Grade 1 Support Teacher
Heather has been teaching for over 20 years. Most recently, she has been working as an independent Orton-Gillingham tutor, supporting students with dyslexia and other language-based learning differences. Before that, she was a lower elementary teacher at Harborlight Montessori and Stoneridge Children's Montessori. She holds a B.A. and M.Ed. from Endicott College. Her professional journey reflects a strong commitment to literacy, inclusive education, and sharing her love of the natural world.

Rosie Cunney, Pre-K Assistant Teacher
Rosie is a student working on her degree in Early Childhood Education at North Shore Community College. She has worked as a special education paraprofessional in Beverly Public Schools, and also has experience as an infant and toddler teacher assistant at Parker River Community Preschool in Rowley. She loves being outdoors, hiking with her dogs, swimming in the ocean, and spending time with her family. She loves to learn alongside the children and try new things!
“I am most excited for a new journey in my educational career. I love the chance to meet new people, learn from others, and make new connections. I am still in a position where I am learning about the world of education, as well as who I am as an educator, and GUS is exactly where I want to be to explore it.”
Brianna Farina-Stewart, Art Teacher
Briana is a dynamic and enthusiastic artist and art educator with over three years of teaching experience. She comes to GUS from Ipswich Middle School, where most recently she was the visual arts teacher for grades 6-8. Prior to that, she was the theatrical art supervisor at Ipswich Middle School and the digital media teacher at Ipswich High School. She completed her BFA in painting at Pacific Northwest College of Art, and received an MAT in Art Education from Massachusetts College of Art & Design.
“I was drawn to GUS because of the school’s commitment to fostering creativity, expression, and a deep appreciation of the arts. I look forward to helping to empower and encourage students to grow in all areas of their lives.”
Denby Fortune, Pre-K Assistant Teacher
Denby is an aspiring early childhood educator, working towards graduation from Salem State University in 2028. She has worked as a teacher's aide at Magical Beginnings and is also currently a craft instructor at The Witchery. She is also a proud GUS alum!
“I am really excited to be rejoining the GUS community! I have a passion for working with kids and am looking forward to learning from the teachers around me. My 8th grade GUS trip to the Dominican Republic is what sparked my passion for working with kids!”
Bridget Gantner, Grade 5 Teacher
Bridget is a culturally responsive, student-focused teacher with five years of teaching experience. She believes strongly in progressive and experiential learning. Most recently, she taught fourth grade at Horace Mann Laboratory School in Salem. Prior to that, she taught fourth and fifth grade at the Ocean Shore School in Pacifica, CA, and at the Selma Olinder Elementary School in San Jose, CA. She holds a B.A. from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and an M.Ed. from Loyola Marymount University.

Steven Kennedy, Humanities Teacher
Steven has been teaching for five years. Prior to joining GUS, he taught at Germantown Friends School in Philadelphia, Shore Country Day School, and Devereux@Waring here in Beverly. Alongside his teaching, he has published two novels and currently writes about baseball and the San Francisco Giants for the SB Nation site McCovey Chronicles. He holds an MFA in Creative Writing and an MA in English from San Francisco State University and a BA in English Literature from Gordon College.

Kaite Lewis, Grade 2 Support Teacher
Katie is a dedicated educator with a strong foundation in both traditional and experiential learning. She holds a M.Ed. from Northeastern University and a lead teacher certification in Early Childhood from the American Montessori Society. Her career has included supporting graduate students at MIT, leading outdoor education programs, and teaching in a Montessori classroom. As an alum of Outward Bound and the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS), Katie developed an early appreciation for the kind of deep, transformative learning that happens when students feel connected to their community and invested in their own growth.
“I chose GUS because it brings together the academic rigor, child-centered philosophy, and deep respect for nature and community that have guided my own educational journey. The lower school team is truly rock solid, and I’m excited to see the magic unfold with such a talented and dedicated group of educators!”
Penny Singh, Lower School Music Teacher
Penny Singh has over 20 years experience as a music instructor. Her educational, performance, and teaching background has focused primarily on musical theatre and opera. Most recently she taught at Plum Cove Elementary in Gloucester. Prior to that, she also taught at Winchester Music School and Endicott College. She holds a BM in vocal performance from Illinois Wesleyan University and an MM in opera performance from the Boston Conservatory.
“Glen Urquhart School is a special place - I felt it immediately once I stepped foot on campus. It is clear that the community has a strong, aligned vision for who they are, how they educate and learn, and how they want to grow. I am excited to be part of a place that fosters such unique warmth and character.”
Grace Trefry, Grade 3 Support Teacher
Grace graduated from Gordon College with a B.S. in Elementary Education in 2024. She has a variety of educational experiences, including working as an Assistant Teacher at Creation Station Preschool in Beverly, as the Nursery Coordinator at Christ Church in Hamilton, and as camp director at Lynch Park in Beverly.
“I am very passionate about providing a quality education for each and every student. I have had the opportunity to work with students in an educational setting since I was a sophomore in high school, and I could not imagine myself doing anything different! The GUS community seems wonderful, and I cannot wait to get to know both the students and staff more.”
