Teddy Bear Day

Teddy Bear Day: Wednesday, February 15

For a small donation (up to $5 or whatever feels comfortable), all students may bring a lap-sized stuffed animal for the day (don’t worry, it goes home at the end of the day!). Funds raised will be used to purchase art supplies for a school in Nevis, West Indies. Kindergartners will collect the donations from each class, giving them an opportunity to see all the stuffed animals. They will count the funds and will announce how much we have raised at an upcoming All School Meeting.

About Teddy Bear Day

There has been a long-standing relationship between the Jocelyn Liburd School, formerly called the Gingerland Primary School, in Nevis, and Glen Urquhart School.  Each year the kindergarteners learn about life in Nevis. They explore videos, photos, drawings, writing, and news about life on the island. We do several video chats with a kindergarten there. They teach us some of their songs and we do art lessons.

For the last twenty years, the GUS community has donated much-needed supplies. Although this school does a very good job of educating their children in grades K-6, they lack the necessary resources to fulfill all of their goals. In 2014 we started an art program in several schools that previously had no art classes or art supplies.
