Glen Urquhart School (GUS) has announced that Gretchen Forsyth, of Manchester-by-the-Sea, has assumed the role of interim head of school for the 2019-20 school year.

Forsyth takes the leadership position after nine years at GUS and 17 years of administrative experience. She holds an A.B. from Bowdoin College, an MSW from Boston College, and an M.A. in Educational Leadership from the Teachers College, Columbia University’s Klingenstein Private School Leadership program.

“We look forward to working with Gretchen and the entire GUS faculty and staff to continue the traditions of providing unique and quality educational programs and services to the school’s students and families,” said Dr. George T Balich, president of the board of trustees.

Forsyth said she is excited to work with the amazing faculty and dedicated board at GUS to ensure continued momentum over the next year.

“This is an exciting moment for the GUS community and we see this as a time of significant growth and development, building off of the work that has been done over the past few years, specifically with our long range strategic plan,” she said. “As always, GUS is moving forward and I am honored to lead the school through this interim period.”

To assist Forsyth in the upcoming academic year the following faculty members will assume new responsibilities: Cori Russo, interim dean of students, Sarah Bailes, interim assistant dean of students, and Maureen Twombly as interim director of curriculum. Preschool Director Emily Rabinowitz-Buchananan will expand her duties to include support for grades 1-5, and join interim director Twombly and faculty members Christopher Doyle and Christine Draper on the curriculum committee. Additionally, school counselor Bre-Anne Brandt will become full-time for the 2019-20 academic year.
