Friends + Fun, Adventure + Activities, Exploration + Enrichment!

Glen Urquhart School offers half day and full day camp and enrichment experiences, for eight weeks each summer, on our 23-acre campus in Beverly Farms. Our 2018 SUMMER@GUS season operated through August 17 and was an adventure-filled time of fun, activities, friendship and designed to give children a chance to enjoy a variety of activities, enhanced by theme days and special events. Extended before and after camp care options are available.

Session Information

  • We offer four two-week sessions each summer. The two-week sessions allow us to explore a number of different themes and special events. We do allow campers to sign up for one week or all eight weeks!

  • Day campers may sign up for individual weeks. Campers who register for at least four weeks receive an additional 5% discount. Campers who register for eight weeks receive a 10% discount.

  • Campers may be dropped off starting at 8:30 a.m. and must be picked up by 4:30 p.m. Families may choose to register for our Extended Care program, which offers morning care starting at 7:30 a.m. and afternoon care through 5:30 p.m. Each is $50 per week.

  • We offer bus transportation to and from Beverly and Lynn for the first five weeks of each summer. For more information contact Nancy Hartmann.

  • Campers bring their own lunch daily, and we provide morning and afternoon snacks. We are NOT a nut-free camp, but support food allergies in partnership with parents and campers’ physician allergy management plans. We do not allow campers to share food. All staff are fully informed about all allergy concerns.

  • Campers have the choice to go swimming at the Bennett Center, at Gordon College, Monday through Thursday at 3:00 p.m. If a camper elects not to swim, he or she can choose from camp arts or sports activities. Camp counselors and lifeguards supervise swim sessions. Chickadees do not have the choice to swim, but instead enjoy fun campus activities.

Core Program + Values

SUMMER@GUS Core Program + Values

Glen Urquhart School motto:  Mean well. Speak well. Do well.

Our Commitment:  To ensure that every camper is embraced in friendship and has the opportunity to grow through healthy exploration and discovery. Our program is designed to support each child in a fun and stimulating environment, so they can become more resilient and able to define their personal journey in harmony with others.

SUMMER@GUS intentionally provides program opportunities for our campers to grow strong in character, build confidence, embrace creativity, and feel that they belong to and contribute within a happy and healthy community.

Leadership and Staffing

Nancy Hartmann, Director of Auxiliary Programs, oversees SUMMER@GUS

Nancy graduated with a master’s degree in human resource development from American International College and a bachelor’s degree in park and recreation management from the University of Missouri. She has dedicated her professional career to youth development, working as a camp administrator for the Girl Scouts, YMCAs, independent schools, and outdoor education centers. Before joining Glen Urquhart in 2016, she was the director of Brooks School day camp in North Andover.

In addition to her role at GUS, Nancy serves on the Massachusetts Camping Association board of directors, she is an American Camping Association standards instructor, volleyball coach, and lifeguard instructor, and she teaches children’s swimming lessons. In March 2018 Nancy was awarded the George Marcus Award for ACA Accreditation Education Service. The award is given to a Standards Volunteer who exemplifies her role as the face of American Camp Assocation New England.

Colleen Martin, SUMMER@GUS Assistant Director

Colleen comes to SUMMER@GUS with 17 years of camp experience, including nine years as a camper, three years as a counselor-in-training, and 5 years on staff. She will graduate with an elementary education degree from Endicott College in May of 2018. Colleen extends her work with youth as a student leader for Endicott College’s Big Brother, Big Sister Program. Colleen brings her enthusiasm and love for camp daily!

Day camp staff (and we're pleased to be welcoming back Molly, Rasheed, and Colin!) are college-age students or activity specialists who have proven, successful experience working with children. Day camp staff must attend a comprehensive staff orientation before camp begins to embrace the SUMMER@GUS core program and values and build a cohesive staff team who work in the best interest of the campers at all times. Orientation includes health and safety protocols, risk management, behavior management, intentional program design, emergency procedures, use of resources, care of equipment, and overall knowledge of camp procedures.

GUS staff and independent contractors have undergone background checks, including a Massachusetts CORI, SORI, the National Sex Offender Public Registry, and fingerprinting. In addition, we conduct in-person interviews and check three provided references. Our staff-to-camper ratios are defined further on each program’s details and logistics page.

Summer enrichment facilitators are primarily Glen Urquhart faculty. Each year, we also carefully select independent contractors to provide exceptional opportunities to our campers.

Summer Program Facilities + Grounds

SUMMER@GUS takes full advantage of Glen Urquhart School’s beautiful campus, nestled within 23 acres of woodlands and fields. Our academic buildings, gymnasium, and greenhouse provide tremendous indoor space for experiential learning and shelter from inclement weather.

The real gem is our outdoor space, including age-appropriate play areas, athletic field, archery range, basketball and four square courts, gaga pit, volleyball court, nature trails, outdoor classroom, woodlands, wetlands, and rock ledges.

We utilize neighboring resources to extend our programming, such as the Gordon College indoor swimming pool, La Vida high ropes course, Coast to Coast Paddle, and adjacent parks and trails for hiking and exploration.
