A Response to Current Events: Speaking to Middle School Students
A lot happened over the weekend and given this year's school theme of "Civility," I thought it was important to bring our upper school community together and talk. So of course, the Red Sox won the World Series, and that is very exciting, but sadly that’s not what I want to focus on this morning. Over the past few days, people have been attacked: attacked for being Jewish, for being black, and even for being leaders in the Democratic party. It’s hard to think of these things happening here in the United States. Very hard.

Tibetan Buddhist Monks Will be Artists-in-Residence at Glen Urquhart School
Glen Urquhart School in Beverly Farms will welcome The Mystical Arts of Tibet this November for a week-long residency on campus. Tibetan Buddhist monks from Drepung Loseling Monastery will construct a mandala sand painting from November 12 to 15. Students, teachers, families, and community members will enjoy the opportunity to learn and participate in this beautiful and painstaking act of art and ritual as the monks share their performance.

GUS to Host 2nd Annual North Shore Nature Fair on November 4
Glen Urquhart School in Beverly Farms will host their second annual, family-friendly North Shore Nature Fair on Sunday, November 4 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Hands-on activities and nature-based projects for kids in preschool through middle school and coordinated by GUS educators and partners from across the North Shore, will be situated across our 23-acre campus in Beverly Farms.

Civility as a Shared School Value
For families who've had a child in kindergarten at Glen Urquhart School, you've probably also heard Sandy Thoms talk about how it’s impossible to provide a "value-free" education. She typically goes on to explain that there are always a few shared values that she and fellow teacher Amy Billings consistently work to instill in their young students. These shared values, the way individuals treat one another, are the foundation of something much larger--civility.

Pre-K Program at GUS: A Glimpse at September
Pre-K got off to a wonderful start this fall, as we welcomed our first class of 16 eager and enthusiastic preschoolers to the GUS campus! Over the first month of school we’ve watched them form friendships and explore their new home away from home, as we begin to establish our Pre-K community.
