Dr. Norwood completed his pediatric residency at Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia, and served over 20 years as a U.S. Navy Physician taking care of military children while serving in various leadership roles. He served 10 years of his military career overseas, providing full-scope outpatient and inpatient pediatric care in Naples, Italy, and in both Yokosuka and Okinawa, Japan. After military retirement, he began his civilian career with Sentara Healthcare in Virginia Beach, VA, where he currently resides.
One of the wonderful things about our new mission statement is that it begins with ‘through the joys of learning.’ In early drafts that part had been at the end, and at the suggestion of our faculty, we moved it to the front. That change felt so right! Here at GUS, we always lead with joy and that has certainly been true this fall.
As the GUS strategic planning process continues, in partnership with the Board of Trustees and the school, Head of School Gretchen Forsyth shares why it's important to look to the future needs of our children to find creative and innovative ways to push our school further, and bring our vision to life.
Katie attended GUS for seventh and eighth grade, graduating in 2008. After GUS, she went to Governor’s Academy, then on to Dartmouth College, where she graduated in 2016. She received her J.D. from Harvard Law School in 2021 and is currently pursuing her MFA in creative writing from New York University.
The collaboration between Glen Urquhart School and the Cape Ann Museum has been growing and thriving for years. In recent years, the partnership has grown in many ways, allowing students to enhance their learning in the visual arts, social studies, persuasive writing, and speaking.

Joanie attended GUS for Kindergarten through eighth grade, graduating in 2004. She now works at Twill, a digital mental health company, and lives in Stow, MA with her husband, two cats, and puppy.
This year the much-anticipated trip had 73 GUS students and 17 faculty members make the trek to Moultonborough, NH to Camp Winaukee for two days and one night chock full of activity.
I have taught math at Glen Urquhart School since 2011. I love teaching math, especially making connections to real life experiences. I work to connect the math curriculum to social justice, but sometimes in class I announce: we’re not doing math today, we’re going to learn about how the Transatlantic Slave Trade is connected to racism and white privilege.
We are pleased and honored to share that The Carol Stewart Memorial Fund has been formally established at Glen Urquhart School. This fund, lovingly and thoughtfully supported by her family and friends, will make small, annual gifts to help offset the costs of GUS preschool for the children of our faculty and staff.
We are thrilled to welcome Julia Bugeau-Heartt and Amanda Pastel, and to welcome back Jen Mallette, to the GUS team this fall! Jen Mallette '87 returns to GUS as Science Coordinator, where she will tasked with leading the science department in curriculum development and implementation.

Seeking to create a lasting and meaningful expression of the school's motto, "Mean Well, Speak Well, Do Well" we have made a contribution to the school’s existing “8th Grade Gift Fund” while supporting an important green initiative on campus too.
