Snowflakes - A GUS Tradition

Hello!

We hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving, and a relaxing break! We wanted to provide information about our Snowflake tradition that kicks off Monday, November 28th, as a way to honor our teachers and staff during the Holiday season.

What is the Snowflake tradition all about?

The GUS Snowflakes tradition began in the 1980’s by a former GUS teacher, as a way to honor and acknowledge the Glen Urquhart faculty at the holidays while, simultaneously, supporting the good work of health and human service organizations on the North Shore.

Families can purchase a “Snowflake” in honor of GUS faculty/staff by making a donation to either Beverly Bootstraps or GAIN@GUS. It is a wonderful way for faculty/staff to know that good work is being done in their name for others in need. The donations will be presented to the organizations at our Solstice Assembly on December 16th.

Purchasing snowflakes takes the place of a group gift to teachers during the holidays. Our classroom will organize a group gift for Teacher Appreciation Week and an end-of-year gift for teachers (for those that wish to participate), but at the holidays, we are asked to focus on the Snowflake tradition in lieu of class/group gifts. Homemade cards are always encouraged and appreciated though!

How do you purchase Snowflakes?

  • You can purchase your Snowflakes by returning checks to the Snowflake “mailboxes” in the Lower and Upper School lobbies.

  • Each snowflake is $2. You may purchase as many snowflakes for as many faculty/staff members as you like or you can purchase one in honor of the entire faculty and staff for $100.

  • Please take a paper snowflake in honor of your contribution!

  • Snowflakes can be purchased through Tuesday, December 13th.

  • All donations must be made by check (sorry, that is a hard rule)

  • Snowflake donations can be made to either Beverly Bootstraps or GAIN@GUS. If you’d like to make a donation to both, they must be separate checks.

  • Please make your check payable to either Beverly Bootstraps or Glen Urquhart School with GAIN@GUS in the memo area so we are able to properly disperse the funds.

  • To identify specific honorees on the snowflakes, please include a list of teacher/staff names with your check.

We’re excited to further this tradition of honoring our teachers while supporting our community. If you have any questions at all, please reach out to us or the PA Executive Committee at guspa@gus.org.
