Grade Three is a year of personal discovery, as students develop a stronger sense of identity and community, and begin to expand their social awareness. Our third grade theme, ‘Where Am I Going?,’ allows us to explore the world, beginning with our classroom and expanding outwards in ever broadening concentric circles into the world at large.

Many people dislike Valentine’s day. Oftentimes dismissed as a Hallmark holiday, I see value in taking a day to reflect on who and what you love. For me, Valentine’s Day was extra special this year. My day began at breakfast with former trustee members from as far back as the early 80’s. It was a wonderful testament to the power of the GUS experience and to the value of connection around shared experiences.

Annually, 8th Grade Arts Night showcases an impressive collection of both visual and performance art by our eighth grade class. In addition to a gallery-style art exhibit and presentations featuring their White Shirt Projects, eighth-graders also perform a series of modern dance pieces inspired by the school theme, be the change.

January is here and, for eighth graders at Glen Urquhart School, that means the coming of 8th Grade Arts Night, the annual, and much anticipated, dance performance and art exhibit. GUS encourages children to be critical thinkers and explore their interests, to respect and learn about/from people and places outside of one’s own circle, and gives them the tools and experiences to further nurture their kindness and compassion.
